Rifaximin is a rifamycin derivative, which is a semi-synthetic antibacterial drug of rifamycin, with a broad antibacterial spectrum and strong antibacterial effect. Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, Salmonella, Shigella and Escherichia coli, Yersinia enterocolitica, Gram-positive anaerobic bacteria Bacteroidetes, etc. have high antibacterial activity.

Its mechanism of action is to inhibit bacterial polymerase, block the transcription process of RNA, and then inhibit bacterial protein synthesis, thereby reducing the production of ammonia. Its antibacterial effect features: 1) strong antibacterial power, broad antibacterial spectrum, against most Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria (including aerobic and anaerobic bacteria) have bactericidal effect, and their effect on Gram-positive bacteria is stronger than that of Gram-negative bacteria; 2) It is not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract, and has a very high concentration in the intestinal tract. It can kill intestinal pathogens and quickly exert an antibacterial effect locally, and does not need to use intestinal antispasmodics and adsorbents.
